Lessons Learned
Dear Friends,
My time in Santa Fe was exceptional. I am grateful that everyone was so patient and accommodating with my schedule. It really meant a lot to be able to learn and grow. Covid shifted the landscape of professional training such that being in person with wonderful colleagues has become more rare.
I am now at the half way point the 2-year program in Biodynamic Osteopathic Manual Therapy. I feel deeply transformed by giving and receiving the techniques. In my return to the studio, I have been weaving them into the fluidic pulse of Craniosacral Therapy with an ease borne from a personal experience of the techniques. At one point, I felt the download of all the styles and expertise in the room. It reminded me of sitting in the stacks at my childhood library—imbibing volume after volume of expert touch. I am especially grateful for mentor and my lab partner. I can now rest in their transmission of the techniques and add my own insights as I treat.
I was going to do a round up of all the ah-ha moments but there were simply too many. The primary shift for me was and is so deeply internal. What I can say is that I am greeting the structural body differently. I naturally have an energetic, etheric orientation to the human biofield. That is now starting to broaden into a nuanced interrelationship between the structure, energy, and fluid systems. I am leaning into the new interconnections with curiosity and skill.
I proceed at a deliberate pace as I dive deep into the work.
The word that keeps surfacing is INVITATION. Carey uses the term BY INVITE as a way to hear what the system is asking for. Does it call for support in its current pattern? Does it want to be taken home to position of more space and possibility? Does it simply need to be held?
I hear INVITATION expansively. To be invited is to be included, to anticipate, to embrace the human experience with all its rough edges and delights. Nobody wants to go to every event, but we inherently prefer to be asked. We like to feel like we matter.
When clients invite me to the event that is their system, they are inviting a joyful and compassionate witness to reflect and celebrate their health—to claim space with them that their health matters. The initial contact holds so much possibility.
As we dive deeper, the system starts to organize around the support. It’s like someone saying, “I’ll hold the door until you are ready to walk through it.” The system can settle with the knowing that I have RSVP’d.
Together we start to understand the nature of the event. What does the system long for to return to wholeness? What is the right technique, the right contact, the right timing, the right integration? Is this event about holding on? Letting go? Acceptance? Peace? Ease?
Through INVITE, the client and practitioner ATTEND the sacred space of health. We come to a crescendo of what is possible in a session, a sequence, even a lifetime of rupture, regeneration, connection, and reverence for the very sacred vessel that is our human life.
I am so honored to be able to ATTEND and ACCEPT the INVITATION, with my heart, hands, mind, and vision of health for all.
With folded palms,
Jennifer
