Protecting the Light

Dear Friends,

It’s hard to believe that January of 2026 will mark 3 years in the renovated version of Tenth House Health. So much has changed and so much hasn’t—the warp of forever and the weft of a heartbeat woven together over time.

I have a lot to say and also I can sum it up in the simplest of sentiments.

I feel deep affection for each and every one of you.

I couldn’t be more grateful that my writing, hands, and heart touches you. You have certainly all touched me.

‘TIS THE SEASON

The holidays this year have been challenging. My eldercare responsibilities escalated right before Thanksgiving, which has impaired how much I can do for my friends and colleagues this season. There were no community classes, fundraisers, or great gifts. I have told myself what I would tell any one of you that it’s okay to take a year off. Sometimes we have to take one for the team.

And at the same time, it feels uncomfortable—racing just to stay in place. I feel less like I am celebrating light and more like I am guarding it. I am keeping a watchful eye on my inner flame making sure that it’s just bright enough to light the way and trusting that intention is contribution enough for 2025.

If you are struggling this holiday season, please know that it’s okay. I’m holding you in my heart and meditations. I breathe in the struggle of everyone who has challenges with caregiving, and breathe out, bathing us all in golden light.

PROFESSIONAL NAVEL GAZING

I have had a cascade of thoughts about how I might like to grow in the coming year—the biggest one being a re-brand. I firmly believe that our community will widen and deepen as more of us know we’re here.

The name Tenth House Health might be the biggest obstacle to visibility and growth at this point and I have had an intuitive hit about what might be better:

ATHENS HEALING ARTS (for the space in Athens)

JENNIFER SOKOLOV (for my practice in NYC)

For now, I want people to know these things:

  • There is weekly buddhist friendly, somatically oriented meditation on Tuesday nights, by donation;

  • Feldenkrais is a movement class for those wanting to increase their interconnectedness and range of motion;

  • Yoga for Arthritis isn’t just class it’s a community;

  • Flow and Restorative Yoga are nourishing in ways that are hard to quantify but deeply felt;

  • Craniosacral therapy isn’t just about the cranium and the sacrum, it’s about stem cell-level resilience and its role in health;

  • Community is a core value and vital for all of us to thrive;

  • Healers and practitioners need as much care as everyone else, which is why we must gather;

  • and I am in NYC every other Sunday and Monday supporting clients in my adult “hometown.”
